The Best Parks in Charlotte for Children and Parents Alike.
Charlotte has a fantastic selection of family-friendly museums (who said Discovery Place had an age limit?). However, it’s the Queen City’s outdoor offerings that shine in the summer months. Below are four of the best parks in Charlotte for families to explore while the sun is shining and the weather is warm.
1. Romare Bearden Park (Uptown):
Located right next to the Charlotte Knights Stadium, Romare Bearden Park is great for the family or an afternoon with friends. The “Childhood Muse Plaza” is a wonderland for children, especially during summer months (it includes a large misty fountain). Check out upcoming events here.
2. Park Road Park (Closeburn-Glenkirk):
This is one big playground for all ages. Whether it’s basketball, softball, soccer or tennis, the sports fields cover all of the bases. A particularly meaningful part of the park is Newtown Memorial Playground, dedicated to the students and teachers whose lives were lost in the 2012 Sandy Hook tragedy.
3. Marion Diehl Park (South Park):
An indoor pool and outdoor playground are just two of the attractions at South Park’s Marion Diehl Park. With tons of class offerings, mom can take yoga while the little ones participate in swim lessons. View more information on all classes and activities here.
4. First Ward Park (Uptown):
Also a summer go-to, First Ward park features an interactive fountain and a giant chess board. Family-friendly festivals are often held here making the trip fun for mom and dad, too (check out the calendar here). If your plans are rained out, try ImaginOn right next door.
