About Us

Celebrating Success

Since 1983, Cottingham Chalk’s real estate agents have possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit with a tenacious drive. They span generations, work hard for you and are highly self-motivated. Our agents balance work with their family time and often take active roles in the community.

Believing in the importance of collaboration and building relationships, our agents know the value of working for a company that promotes authenticity and commitment. Once an agent has joined the Cottingham Chalk family, they won’t want to work anywhere else – and we’re proud of that!

Leadership Team

Dan Cottingham

What and how you do something is not as important as why you do it. You have to have a passion. Our team has a passion to serve, and simply put, that passion is the sole reason so much of our business comes from others recommending us to their family and friends.

Dan Cottingham and his dear friend, John D. Chalk III, proudly founded Cottingham Chalk in 1983. Dan serves as the firm’s President and remains focused on creating, maintaining and nurturing a dynamic work environment for the best agents in the business. Under his watch, the firm has achieved sales of over $10 billion.

Dan moved to Charlotte to enter the real estate business with, at that time, the leading firm in town. After two years he was promoted to Sales Manager of the top producing office in the two Carolinas at age 25. One year after starting Cottingham Chalk at the young age of 30, Dan served as President of the Charlotte Association of Realtors. He always says lead by example, and no other firm in the region can match the leadership legacy we have…Patty McKeel, Donna Anderson, Sandy Larsh, Eric Locher and Maren Brisson-Kuester (two terms) also served as Presidents of our Realtor Association.

Dan chose to be a Realtor because he believes it to be a higher calling. He continues to be quite active in the community serving the needs of children and those who have fallen on tough times. He lives in Myers Park with his wife and enjoys time with his family, especially his four grandchildren who all live in Charlotte.
