Back to School Plan: With the first day of school looming, the pressure starts to build. Maybe you spent the last few months letting the kids stay up a little later & enjoying a less routine summer lifestyle. (We all do!) Now you find the first day of school creeping ever closer & you have that daunting feeling & inner voice saying “This year will be different. This year I need to be more organized.” We’ve found some great ideas that will calm your inner monologue & guide you toward a smooth start.

NO. 1 – THE DROP ZONE

The unbelievable little spaces, also know by many as mudrooms, can be a real lifesaver. While these spaces tend to get all the mess, you can make them really take on a beauty all their own. Built-in cabinetry & shelving can define this space ideally, however you can get creative if you don’t have quite enough room for built-ins. We think some of the best solutions for this space can be:

– Baskets/bins for hats, gloves & miscellaneous items

– Decorative hooks for coats

– Rug to resistance from slipping

– A throw pillow or two to soften the space

NO. 2 – FAMILY CALENDAR

Juggling school schedules, extracurricular activities, appointments, etc, can be a challenge. While a digital version is a great option, it always seems like a physical calendar in a highly trafficked space can really help. There is something about glancing at your day or week as you are running around the house that makes things stick in your mind. Here are a few good options, digital or physical, that can manage the chaos of back to school or even just everyday life.

NO. 3 – HOMEWORK STATION

Having one spot for children to complete homework can really help children to be more efficient. This spot should contain everything they need to get their work completed & can really almost eliminate the constant search. If you have a smaller living space & can’t create an area for just study time, there are some great portable options that can transform your dining room table in a work space in a matter of seconds.
